Head Coach John Savage's Waterville Junior Pee Wee Pop Warner team made history by being the first Waterville Pop Warner Team to ever win the Tri-Valley Division 3 title. Going a perfect 9-0 the 2006 Eagles were dominant beating every team in three counties including beating Frankfort twice, and sporting victories over some of the areas toughest football schools such as Herkimer, Westmoreland, Sauquoit, Ilion, Mt. Markham, Hamilton and Clinton.

What made the 2006 season ever so sweet was the fact that the core of the starting line-up including Alec Savage, Jared and Jordan Henderson, Jake Knutti and Jon Piersma struggled two years earlier in their winless 2004 season (0-8). Coach Savage claims it was a total team effort amongst his coaching staff. Bob Piersma and I were the old guys who kind of stood back and let the younger guys use their talents to lead what was a veteran group with 11 returning starters from the 2005 season. Every once in a while Bob and I would step in and make a tweak or two but Coach Harry and Hemmerich did an awesome job.

The bitter irony of it all occurred in the following season when Coach Savage and his staff were squeezed out of an opportunity to return and coach the boys at the next level – Junior Midgets. As is often the case in life – success doesn't always equate to happiness. States Savage "I believe there was a lot of jealousy as well as paranoia regarding the success we had in 2006 and how that would effect the opportunity for other coaches to advance and coach their respective children prospectively. At the end of the day we had a great run in 2006 and those memories are forever burned into our collective beings – both players and coaches alike. Very few will experience a perfect season in their lifetime – it is truly a surreal experience."
